Gabriel Magalhaes has joined arsenal on a five year deal from French side Lille. The gigantic defender has ended his three-year stay in France that includes loan spells to Troyes AC and Dinamo Zagreb.
Arsenal has beaten off competition from premier league rivals Manchester United and Everton to the capture of the 22-year-old. Arsenal fans will be hoping the left-footed Brazilian can form a strong partnership with new boy Saliba to keep premier league strikers at bay.
Gabriel started his career at Brazilian second-tier side Avai making only 21 appearances. In January 2017, he has snapped up by Lille in a 1.5m deal signing a four and a half year contract.
Following impressive appearances with the Lille B team, Gabriel was sent out on loan to Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb to further his development. However, these loan spells turned out to be disastrous as he only managed one appearance for either side.
After unproductive loan spells, Gabriel returned to Lille in 2018 and made 14 appearances that season. His impressive performances in 2018 meant he would go on and cement a starting berth in the Lille defense. He scored his first goal for Lille in a 5-1 win against Paris Saint Germain on 14 April 2019.
Arteta will be hoping that Gabriel can be a success at Arsenal as he hopes to return the gunners to the champions league. He will wear the number 6 shirt that was initially donned by Koscielny.
