Former Kampala city Mayor Al-Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebagala was rushed to the intensive care unit at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) Namugongo.
His son, Abdul Gamel Ssebagala, said that his father suffered from acute stomach complications and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to Seeya’s close family, medics informed them that the patient had suffered a stomach disorder known as intussusception.
Intussusception is a serious condition in which part of the intestine slides into an adjacent part of the intestine. This “telescoping” often blocks food or fluids from passing through. Intussusception also cuts off the blood supply to the part of the intestine that’s affected. This leads to a tear in the bowel (perforation), infection, and death of bowel tissue. Intussusception is common in children and a rarity in adults. Though it is rare in adults, most cases of adult intussusception are the result of an underlying medical condition, such as a tumor.
Symptoms of this disorder usually manifest as other disorders hence proving a challenge in Identification.
Hajji’s brother, Kawempe North legislator Latif Ssebagala informed reporters that he underwent successful surgery and is currently in recovery.
Our thoughts and prayers.
