The national team management, with the blessing of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has named an 18 man squad to prepare for the AfroBasket qualifiers set to take place in November.
Of the 18, 12 are locally based players and they start training at Lugogo Indoor Stadium right away four times a week, for the next month. Thereafter, they will board for Egypt where they will be joined by the foreign-based players and head coach George Galanopolous.
While in Uganda, the team will be under the watchful eye of Mandy Juruni who will be assisted by Brian Wathum & Andrew Tendo.
The FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers are slated for November 27th to 29th and Uganda will be hoping to make the AfroBasket finals for the third consecutive time having made it to Tunisia 2015 and Senegal/Tunisia 2017.
“These qualifiers are very important for us as a country and we have to prepare very well and qualify for AfroBasket,” said FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi.
Uganda will compete against hosts Egypt, Morocco in group E, and the winner of a wildcard tournament happening in Cameroon later this month. AfroBasket 2021 will take place in Kigali, Rwanda,
